Dr. Jorge Díaz-Garzón, Winner of the Third EFLM-HyTest Cardiac Marker Award

28.04.2022

undefinedWe warmly congratulate Dr. Jorge Díaz-Garzón, winner of the third EFLM-HyTest Cardiac Marker award, who finally received his award at the IFCC-EFLM European Congress - EuroMedLab!

Dr. Díaz-Garzón's paper "Biological Variation of Cardiac Troponins in Health and Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis" was awarded as the best published paper, judged by an independent panel of experts, demonstrating a remarkable scientific work in the field of cardiovascular diseases.

The award is addressed to young scientists under 40 years of age. Due to the pandemic, the award ceremony has been postponed. Now, Dr. Díaz-Garzón, pictured here at the Speaker's dinner on 11.4.2022, can celebrate his well-earned achievement at last!

Short summary of the Dr. Díaz-Garzón's paper:

Cardiac-specific troponins (cTn) are the preferred biomarkers for the detection of myocardial injury. Biological variation data has been proposed as a useful approach to set analytical performance specifications that are critical for effective application of cTn, especially in the emergency setting. In this meta-analysis study, Dr. J. Diaz-Garzon et al. shows that within-subject biological variation estimates for troponin I and troponin T isoforms were similar in all settings. There appears to be a difference in within-subject biological variation estimates for the short- and long-term setting. Estimates were similar in healthy subjects and patients suffering from various chronic diseases.
